A driver suspected of driving under the influence in Vista, North San Diego County, was arrested on February 21, 2015 after he was involved in a 4 car collision. The driver was apparently driving north and hit 3 other vehicles also driving north, at which point his vehicle swerved into the south lane, avoiding any other vehicles, before swerving into a business, which caused minor property damage.
Remarkably, there appears to only be one injury, one of the passengers in the first vehicle hit went to the hospital complaining of neck pain. The driver was arrested on felony driving under the influence of alcohol, which carries a maximum penalty of three years in prison. However, the prosecution can allege a "great bodily injury" enhancement, if the passenger injured is determined to fall under this category, which would add three more years maximum to his sentence if convicted.
Considering that the great bodily injury enhancement carries a three year maximum for each passenger who qualifies, the driver is extremely lucky that only one, out of an apparent nine other passengers in the three other vehicles are claiming any injuries whatsoever.
